Home again via high desert & wine country

We arrived home to cooler temperatures & clear skies.  Thus the saying, “there’s no place like home”.

Driving along with Lewis & Clark

We left Glacier this morning with the goal of seeking better air quality and lower temperatures if possible.  So we followed in the footsteps of the Corps of Discovery (Lewis & Clark) on highway 93.

We saw bison 🦬 in the smoke, and if you look closely you’ll see mountains behind them!

At the end of the day, we camped at the Craters of the Moon monument.  Sigh

Glacier state of mind

On the way to Glacier NP we drove mainly on hwy 20, discovering the joys of the open road. We found a distillery that let us park for the night in Loon Lake before heading out to find the park.  As seen below, the local bird life has an impressive way of greeting visiting vans.

We found Glacier NP, settled into a campground just outside the park boundaries and continued learning about the van.  This has been a great way to figure out how things work.
Today we woke up early to get the free shuttle up to Logan Pass & the high trails.  It’s truly amazing how many people are in this park!  The campgrounds are full and the shuttles were packed.  So different than our previous trips here with our kids.  The people come from everywhere & are interesting and we’ve had some fun conversations.
Photos below are from the staging area for the shuttle and some photos of the high

Tomorrow our goal is to scout out both reasonable temperatures & air quality as we head west.  Have van, will travel.

Along the North Cascade highway

September 2024 seems like a good time to go north into the mountains.  We hope to use our down time to finish reading the owner manuals for our van & sort out all of its features.  Like how to use the radio…

We drove over the North Cascades today, with amazing views and only a whiff of nearby wildfires.  In the process, we only set off a couple of car alarms ‼️ so feeling more like confident campers 🚙

After driving & securing a campsite, we found food at a local brewpub.  Life is pretty good.

Cheers!  Linda & Glenn
