Paris is marvelous!

Now that I'm briefly home (24 hours), will post photos and impressions of 8 days in Paris.......

We were met by Alex at the airport - for a charming ride into Paris after an overnight flight.

Wandering at the nearby famous cemetery - believe it or not, a great place for walking and wondering just who all these people were!  more later.....

Supporting street musician near the Notre Dame

3 musketeers

Joan of Arc, a local girl of medieval times.
Our first day was a bit of a whirlwind, and thanks to Alex, we didn't get lost in downtown Paris.  Instead we traipsed around the Notre Dame, La Chapelle stained glass and the Concierge, where Marie Antoinette spent her last year or two.  I like to think she was considering why she needed all that opulence in the palaces.

Some more highlights:

Simply amazing stained glass in La Chapelle, next to the Notre Dame.  One of those places that you have to see it to believe it!  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sainte-Chapelle

Up in the d'Orsay museum

The hordes awaiting entrance to Versailles.  Over 2 hour wait to enter this amazing place.  Must admit, the peasant in me wanted to overthrow the aristocracy after seeing what they were up to in this place.........   The history of Paris, the royals and the experiments in governance are palpable here.

At the gates of Versailles (thanks Alex for taking this photo  ;-)

Kendra dwarfed by the dimensions of this place!

Lovely fountains with music at Versailles

Marie Antoinette's little village within Versailles, where she could pretend to be a farmer.

The Eiffel tower sparkles after sunset!  Thanks to Alex, we were able to get a great view.

Glenn on the bridge ;-)

Musicians on the steps of the basilica at Montemarte - delightful!

Moulin Rouge!

The Opera House, definitely would plan to explore further......

Alex celebrated her 28th birthday, a couple of days before her return to the US.

Return to the famous cemetery - this is Jim Morrison's grave.  At the time of our visit, young people still flock to climb over the fence and pour beer, etc.  Irreverent acts honoring an irreverent guy.

The Stravinsky fountain - love the Marais district, with the contrasts in perspective.  Also had the best food at the Yellow Taxi - yummmm

Glenn next to a car like he had many years ago while a student in Hungary.  Timeless!
A few days in Paris, good for the wandering soul!  Ciao  ;-)

Paris in springtime ;-)

The wandering continues...... this time in Paris.  After our return to the US after walking the Camino, we have tried to keep up a walking routine.  Alas, our home is so inviting, and we have coffee and wine available so close by (no need to wander to the next village along the way, where the refreshments are not guaranteed).

So, in the spirit of happy wanderers, Glenn, Kendra and I will journey to Paris, to meet our niece, Alex, and explore.  I'll post photos here, rather than tie up the airwaves, and feel free to post comments and suggestions of foods to try!  Bon apetit!
